With two end-facets serving as micro-mirror and semiconductor as gain media, semiconductor nanowire naturally forms ultra-small laser, which is promising for on-chip communication, high-resolution imaging and sensors, etc. In this talk, I will review my work on photonic and plasmonic nanowire lasers. Novel methods to tune the output mode of semiconductor nanowire laser will be demonstrated. Later, I will introduce how to realize a room temperature, low threshold plasmonic nanowire laser operated at ultra-violet spectra region. In addition, recent results on metal halide perovskite laser will be also highlighted.
