In this talk I shall present a brief overview on some recent exciting experimental progress towards scalable quantum information processing (QIP), e.g., quantum communication, quantum computation and quantum simulation, via manipulation of photonic and atomic qubits. On the one hand, building on our long experience in research on multi-photon entanglement, we are working on a number of experiments in the field of QIP with particular emphasis on linear optical quantum computation and free space quantum communication. On the other hand, utilizing the interaction between laser pulses and atomic ensembles we experimentally investigate the atomic ensembles in the gas phase serving as quantum memories to build quantum repeaters for long distance quantum communication. It is foreseen that with ongoing development quantum communication over 1000 km scale and coherent quantum manipulation of up to a few tens photonic and atomic qubits shall be feasible in the next five years.
报告人简介:陈宇翱,中国科学技术大学教授,1981年出生于江苏启东。2008年于德国海德堡大学获博士学位,曾先后在德国海德堡大学、美因茨大学、马普量子光学所从事研究工作,2011年入选中组部首批“青年千人计划”回中国科大工作。长期从事量子物理基础研究,并取得了一系列具有国际领先水平的重要研究成果,得到国内外学术界高度评价,多次入选两院院士评选的“中国十大科技进展新闻”。由于他“在基于光子和冷原子的量子操纵以及在量子信息和量子模拟等领域中做出的杰出贡献”,欧洲物理学会近日授予他2013年度菲涅尔奖。随后获中国科学院2013年度“青年科学家奖”,求是基金会2013年度“求是杰出青年学者奖”。
