The celebrated Dirac equation is not only the foundation of quantum field theory, but also the parent model of many later advances in physics. One of thekey notion derived from Dirac equation is the band topology for fermions in various condensed matters. Recently this notion is extended to bosonic systems, such as in photonics. I will briefly introduce the background, fundamental challenges and recent advances in the search of photonic topological materials. Band degeneracy and topology enriched by space symmetry in all dielectric photonic crystals is emphasized.  Synergy with linear and quantum optics is also introduced.

 

报告人简介:Jian-Hua Jiang graduates from University of Science and Technology of China with Bachelor degree in 2004 and Ph.D degrees in 2010. He graduated with the President Award of Chinese Academy of Sciences. He did post-doc with Prof. Yoseph Imry (Wolf Prize winner) in Weizmann Institute from 2010-2013, and Prof. Sajeev John in University of Toronto from 2013-2015. He started to lead a research group in Soochow University since 2015 where he is a Professor of Physcs working on photonic crystal, and thermoelectric effect. He has published over 30 papers including in the journal of PHYSICS REPORTS, NATURE COMMUNICATIONS,PHYSICS REVIEW LETTERS, PHYSICAL REVIEW X,and ACS NANO.
